The beginning of private museology in Turkey was achieved with the "KOCABAŞ COLLECTION" which was started by Hüseyin KOCABAŞ in 1918 and granted private museum status. A large part of this collection is currently exhibited at the "Sadberk Hanım Museum" The museum was awarded the "EUROPA NOSTRA" prize in 1988.​ Undoubtedly, the foundations of collecting and private museology in Türkiye today were laid by the "KOCABAŞ COLLECTION" considered by authorities to be one of the best collections in the world in the 20th century, and the "KOCABAŞ MUSEUM" Türkiye's first private museum.
